What to Know About Virtual Attorney Visits (VAV) at Limestone County Detention Center
Virtual Attorney Visits (VAV) let attorneys speak privately with someone held at Limestone County Detention Center—no in-person trip required. Here's how the program works, who can participate, and the rules you need to follow.
VAV at Limestone County Detention Center uses Zoom for confidential attorney-client conversations. Think of it as a timely alternative to meeting in person - not a full replacement for on-site legal visits. If you're coordinating legal help for someone detained there, VAV is one of the main ways attorneys can connect privately without dealing with travel or on-site scheduling delays.
Only legal participants can join VAV sessions. That includes the attorney, legal assistants, and interpreters - but not family members or friends. If you're a family member trying to help, your best role is coordinating with the attorney outside the session and making sure they have the information they need to schedule the visit.
ID and Documentation
- ✓ Bar card from any state
- ✓ Other available documentation demonstrating bar membership
- ✓ Be prepared to show the identification prior to the scheduled virtual meeting
Interpreters can participate in VAV sessions, and attorneys can also bring in outside interpretation services during the call. If language access might be an issue, plan ahead. That way the attorney can arrange an interpreter smoothly while staying within the facility's participant rules.
These visits are set up to be confidential, but the facility still maintains safety and security around the process. During a VAV session, a visitation officer will be stationed outside the confidential room while the visit is taking place.
To schedule a VAV Zoom visit or ask questions about the program, email LegalDocs@lasallecorrections.com. For available VAV hours and scheduling details, the facility also directs people to check its ICE detention center page.
No recording: Legal representatives and their staff are not permitted to audio- or video-record any virtual or in-person visit or any call with non-citizens at the facility. Violations may lead to suspension or permanent revocation of VAV user privileges.
This no-recording rule covers everything - virtual sessions, in-person visits, and phone calls. Don't assume a "quick recording for notes" is harmless. The facility treats recording as a serious violation, and the consequence can be losing VAV access temporarily or permanently. Keep the session private, skip the recording tools, and handle documentation through proper legal channels outside the call.
Limestone may also use video visitation for other confidential interviews when available - things like USCIS interviews, forensic medical evaluations, or special visits related to child welfare.
