Getting Phone Calls and eMessages from Someone at Limon: Adding Your Number, Rates, and How eMessaging Works

Staying in touch with someone at Limon comes down to two things: phone calls only go outbound (they call you), and electronic messages go through Securus with a review step before delivery. Here's how it all works, what you'll pay, and how to sidestep the most common headaches.

Getting Phone Calls and eMessages from Someone at Limon: Adding Your Number, Rates, and How eMessaging Works

Limon doesn't allow incoming calls. All phone contact starts from the inside - your loved one dials out to numbers on their approved phone list. You can't call the facility and get connected. Until your number is on that list, phone conversations aren't an option.

  1. Write to the inmate with your phone number - since calls are outgoing only, they need your number in writing so they can add you to their approved phone list.
  2. Wait for the list update before expecting a call - once your number is added, they can place outgoing calls to you from the facility.

Good news: Securus phone rates dropped in October 2023. Under HB23-1133, the per-minute rate fell 25% - from $0.019 to $0.01425 per minute. If you're accepting frequent calls, that adds up over time.

Tip: Rates can be confusing in the moment. Double-check current pricing before you accept or fund calls.

Securus eMessaging is how you send electronic messages to someone at Limon. Your message goes through Securus, gets reviewed, then lands on your loved one's tablet. To send anything, you'll need to buy

Every message, photo, and VideoGram gets screened. Any of them can be rejected. If something doesn't go through, you'll get a notice in your inbox explaining why - so if your loved one says they never received something, it may have been stopped during review rather than lost.

Note: You pay for stamps upfront, before review. Stamps aren't refunded if a message, photo, or attachment gets rejected.

Practical Tips

  • If you want phone calls, give the inmate your phone number in writing so they can add it to their approved phone list.
  • Remember that phone contact only works if you’re on the approved list - calls are outgoing only.
  • Check the current per-minute calling rate before you accept or fund calls; as of October 2023, the Securus rate is $0.01425 per minute after a 25% reduction.
  • Treat eMessaging like screened mail: messages, photos, and VideoGrams are reviewed and can be rejected.
  • Buy stamps with that review in mind - stamps aren’t refunded if your message or attachment is rejected.

Reminder: Both phone calls and eMessages require setup. Your number has to be on the approved list for calls, and eMessages need stamps funded in advance.
