How Much Do Phone Calls Really Cost at Limon (And How to Get on an Inmate’s Phone List)

You can't call an inmate at Limon (CDOC) directly. Incoming calls aren't allowed - phone contact only works one direction. The inmate places outgoing calls to people on their approved phone list.

1. Write to the inmate - this is how you start the process if you want them to be able to call you.
2. Include your phone number - give them the number you want them to use.
3. Ask them to add you to their approved phone list - the inmate is the one who submits/updates their list.

One major exception: if you've ever been listed as a victim in any of the inmate's offenses, they can't add you to their phone list. You'll need to submit a written request to the administrative head of the facility where the inmate is assigned, asking for approval for contact.

One rate you'll see in CDOC materials is the Securus contracted rate: $0.019 per minute for both debit and collect calls, covering local, intrastate, and international calls. This is one of the per-minute numbers to keep in mind when estimating what a 10- or 15-minute call might cost.

But CDOC also gives a different number tied to HB23-1133: $0.014 per minute as the actual call rate under that law. If you've heard families mention a lower rate, this is probably the one.

There's a third version too. The Department says the $0.019 per minute rate will be discounted by 25% starting October 2023, which works out to $0.01425 per minute. That's close to $0.014, but not quite the same - which makes pinning down the exact charge confusing.
