Bringing Children to Visit at Livesay: ID and Documentation Checklist

Age ID Rules

• ✓ Ages 10 and older: bring a government-issued photo ID for the child.

• ✓ Ages 9 and younger: bring the child’s certified long-form birth certificate (this is used as their identification).

Bringing a minor niece or nephew? There's a specific restriction to know about. Minor nieces and nephews aren't eligible for visitation until the incarcerated person has been with SCDC for at least three consecutive years. They also need to meet the other criteria outlined in policy OP-22.09 (Inmate Visitation). If you're unsure whether your situation qualifies, confirm before making the trip so you don't get turned away at check-in.

1. Plan on a paper application for minors - Applications for all minor children go through the paper application process, not online registration.
2. Gather relationship documentation - Include the appropriate documentation that verifies the child’s relationship as an immediate family member.
3. Submit the paper application package - Turn in the paper application with the relationship documentation so it can be reviewed.

Paper applications are also accepted for certain adult visitors in the SCDC system. This includes adults who don't have a state ID or driver's license (for example, someone using a passport or U.S. visa), adults with an out-of-state driver's license, and adults without access to a computer.
