Sending Money and Mail to Someone at Lockhart: Who Can Deposit, Where to Send, and Who to Contact
Want to send commissary money or mail to someone at Lockhart? Getting it right means using the correct process—and including the right name and number.
TDCJ tightened the rules for money deposits starting September 1, 2020. Only people already connected to the inmate through TDCJ systems can deposit: you must be on the inmate's approved visitor list or their Inmate Telephone (phone) list. Not on one of those lists? Your deposit won't go through - even if you're family.
- ✓ Confirm you’re on the inmate’s approved visitor list or on their Inmate Telephone (phone) list before you try to deposit
- ✓ Make sure you have the inmate’s correct TDCJ or SID number (it’s 8 digits); if you don’t know it, look it up using the TDCJ Offender Search before you submit anything
Don't mail money to Lockhart - or to any inmate's unit of assignment. TDCJ is clear on this: trust fund deposits should follow the Inmate Trust Fund mailing and deposit instructions, not go to the unit. Keep money deposits separate from personal mail to avoid delays and misrouted items.
- Verify the inmate’s TDCJ or SID number - you’ll need the correct 8-digit number, and the TDCJ Offender Search is the fastest way to confirm it.
- Confirm you’re an allowed depositor - you must be on the inmate’s approved visitor list or their Inmate Telephone (phone) list.
- Use the official Inmate Trust Fund deposit process - follow the Trust Fund mailing/deposit instructions, and do not send deposit money to the Lockhart facility.
Personal letters and correspondence go through TDCJ's Digital Mail Processing Center. Address your mail exactly like this: Texas Department of Criminal Justice Inmate's Full First and Last Name + TDCJ Number PO Box 660400 Dallas, TX 75266-0400
Reminder: Always include the inmate’s full name and TDCJ number on the address. If you don’t know the number, look it up using the TDCJ Offender Search before you mail anything.
Planning remote video visits through Securus? Know the limits: one visit per month, up to 60 minutes each. That cap affects how you plan contact from month to month, especially if you're also staying connected through other services.
Having problems with vendor-run services like Inmate Telephone, E‑Messaging, Tablets, or Securus Video? TDCJ says to escalate complaints to the ITS Contract Manager. Send written complaints to: Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Information Technology Division, Inmate Technology Services Contract Manager, PO Box 4016, Huntsville, TX 77342-4016. Or email: offenderphones@tdcj.texas.gov.
