Why the Scheduler Isn’t Showing Dates (One‑Visit‑Per‑Week, Privileges, and More)
If the online visitation scheduler looks blank, the system is probably blocking dates on purpose. The calendar isn't broken. Here are the most common reasons dates disappear and what to check next.
The most common reason you won't see dates? The inmate already has a visit scheduled that week. When that happens, the scheduler filters out the entire week automatically. Even if there are normally plenty of open slots, the calendar will look empty.
This ties directly to custody-level limits. In TDCJ, inmates classified G1, J1, or J2 can have one contact visit per week. If your loved one falls into one of those classifications and already has a visit booked, the scheduler stops offering additional dates for that week.
Tip: No dates showing? First check whether the inmate already has a visit scheduled that week. For G1, J1, and J2 inmates, the one-contact-visit-per-week limit can make the calendar look completely booked.
Missing dates can also come down to privileges and day-to-day operations. Visitation is a privilege, and it can be temporarily restricted for an inmate or visitor due to rule violations or security concerns. Visits may also pause during unit lockdowns, serious incidents (escapes, disturbances), or health and safety emergencies. When any of these situations are in play, the system won't show available times because visitation isn't currently allowed.
Note: If dates suddenly disappear, think privileges and unit status. Lockdowns and emergencies can shut visitation down temporarily, even if you were able to schedule before.
What to Do Next
- ✓ Confirm the inmate is assigned to the unit you plan to visit.
- ✓ Confirm the inmate has visitation privileges.
- ✓ If the inmate is not showing in your scheduler profile, check the status of your Relationship Request (it is sent to the inmate’s unit of assignment for TDCJ staff verification).
- ✓ Call the unit for final confirmation before you travel, since unit visitation status is updated daily.
Calling the unit is worth your time, especially if you're traveling. Visitation information gets updated on a regular schedule, but unit status can change quickly due to staffing issues or incidents. A quick call can confirm the inmate is still assigned there, that visitation privileges are intact, and that visits haven't been canceled for the day.
