How to Send Money to LOPEZ UNIT (TX)
Sending money to someone at the LOPEZ Unit? Two rules matter most: who's allowed to send it, and what you need to include if you mail a money order or cashier's check.
Since September 1, 2020, only approved senders can deposit money into an inmate's account. You qualify if you're on the inmate's approved visitor list or the Inmate Telephone List. Not on either list? Your deposit can be rejected, even if you fill out everything else correctly.
Mailing a money order or cashier's check? You'll need to include a deposit slip. The inmate can provide one, or you can request slips by mailing a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Inmate Trust Fund, PO Box 60, Huntsville, TX 77342-0060.
Note: Both the sender-approval rule and deposit-slip requirement are strictly enforced. Other details (payment options, limits, processing times) aren't covered here. Check official TDCJ resources for current instructions before sending money.
Steps-to-follow
- ✓ Confirm you’re approved to send money (you must be on the inmate’s approved visitor list or on the Inmate Telephone List).
- ✓ If you’re mailing a money order or cashier’s check, include a deposit slip with it.
- ✓ Get a deposit slip from the offender, or request slips by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Inmate Trust Fund, PO Box 60, Huntsville, TX 77342-0060.
- ✓ Verify the current mailing instructions and any other requirements through official TDCJ channels before you send anything.
Start by confirming you're an approved sender. The policy effective September 1, 2020 limits deposits to people on the inmate's approved visitor list or Inmate Telephone List. Verify you're listed before attempting to send funds.
Then confirm the deposit slip process for mailed money orders and cashier's checks. Every mailed payment needs a deposit slip included. You can get slips from the offender or by mailing a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Inmate Trust Fund at PO Box 60, Huntsville, TX 77342-0060. Before you send anything, verify this request-by-envelope option is still accepted and that you're using the correct slip format.
- Confirm you’re an approved sender - ask the inmate whether you’re on the approved visitor list or the Inmate Telephone List (the deposit restriction took effect September 1, 2020).
- Confirm what’s required for mailed funds - verify that money orders and cashier’s checks still require a deposit slip.
- Confirm how to get deposit slips - get one from the offender or request slips by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Inmate Trust Fund, PO Box 60, Huntsville, TX 77342-0060.
- Ask about timing and limits before you send - confirm any current limits and typical processing time through official TDCJ information sources.
