How to Schedule Your First Visit to Lopez Unit with the TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler

Your first online visit request can go smoothly if you gather the right details beforehand. Watch for two common hang-ups: email validation and relationship approval.

Prep Before Scheduler

  • A working email address you can access right now (you will need it to create your scheduler account)
  • The inmate’s TDCJ or SID number, exactly 8 digits (you need this to add them to your profile)
  • A phone number you can enter as XXX XXX XXXX using spaces, not dashes

You'll create your own account using your email address, and you must validate that email before moving forward. When adding the person you want to visit, the system only accepts their TDCJ or SID number if it's exactly 8 digits. Double-check it before you start. The phone field is picky too: type it as three digits, a space, three digits, a space, four digits (no dashes), or the form may reject it.

You'll need to create your own TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler account. TDCJ staff cannot create visitor accounts for you, so plan on handling the signup yourself.

  1. Start account creation with your email. Enter the email address you want tied to your scheduler account and submit it.
  2. Check your inbox for the validation message. TDCJ sends an email that includes a 7-digit validation code and a link.
  3. Complete registration using the link or code. Follow the link from the email, or enter the 7-digit validation code where the scheduler prompts you, to finish setting up your account.

While building your visitor profile, you'll need to complete the background questionnaire. Leave questions unfinished and you may get stuck later when trying to schedule.

Phone format tip: Enter your telephone number as XXX XXX XXXX with spaces only. Do not use dashes.

To add an inmate to your profile, you'll search using their TDCJ number or SID number. The number must be exactly 8 digits. Once the search finds the right person, select your relationship to them and submit a relationship request.

Submitting a Relationship Request isn't just a formality. The request goes to the inmate's unit of assignment so TDCJ staff can verify your connection.

Until staff approve it, your request stays on your Home Page under

If you see “Call Unit”: Sometimes the Schedule Visit button is blank or replaced with “Call Unit.” If that happens, call the inmate’s unit of assignment to schedule.

On the scheduling screen, you'll see four visit types to choose from. These include Regular, Contact, and Video/Tablet, plus one additional option shown in the scheduler.

Don't see every visit type? That's normal. Which options appear depends on your relationship to the inmate, the facility's visitation area setup, and the inmate's visitation privileges.

Troubleshooting Common Problems

  • If your phone number is rejected, retype it as XXX XXX XXXX using spaces (no dashes)
  • If the inmate will not pull up, re-check that you entered the TDCJ or SID number as exactly 8 digits

Missing Schedule button: If you cannot schedule and the system shows “Call Unit” instead, call the inmate’s unit of assignment. Relationship verification or unit-level rules can block online scheduling.
