How Many People Can Visit at Once? LCIW's Visitor Limits by Custody Level

LCIW sets adult visitor limits by custody level. If your loved one is in Minimum Custody or Achievement Status, she can have up to six (6) adult visitors in a single visit. Medium Custody caps it at four (4) approved adults per visit. Maximum Custody allows only two (2) visitors per visit. Death Row is the most restrictive: just one (1) approved visitor each visit.

If you're bringing kids, LCIW's rules are unusually straightforward for two custody levels: there is no limit on the number of children under age 15 who can attend Minimum or Medium Custody visits. That makes planning a larger family visit much easier, especially when multiple children are involved. One thing to keep in mind: "under 15" is the key detail. Make sure everyone in your group knows the age cutoff before you go. Getting everyone on the same page ahead of time helps you avoid a stressful surprise at the door.

Women under Minimum Custody and Achievement Status are allowed an additional four (4) hours a month of visiting time for immediate family members only. This doesn't change the per-visit headcount limits (still up to six adults for Minimum/Achievement, for example), but it can change how you schedule. Many families use the extra hours to spread more visiting time across the month for immediate family, while still staying within the two visits per month and the up-to-two-hours-per-visit structure.
