Your child's medical care & medications at Lynchburg JDC: who provides care, costs, and what to bring
If your child has medical needs, those first few days after admission can feel overwhelming. Here's what Lynchburg Regional Juvenile Detention Center (LRJDC) says about who provides care, what costs you might face, and what to bring right away.
LRJDC has a full-time Registered Nurse on-site. This means your child has dedicated nursing coverage for day-to-day health needs while they're there.
Beyond routine nursing care, LRJDC also has a consulting physician available. When health concerns need a doctor's input, that medical oversight is there.
For mental and emotional health support, LRJDC provides a Mental Health Therapist from Horizon Behavioral Health. If your child is struggling, know that a dedicated mental health provider is connected to the facility.
Call the nurse: For special medical questions or concerns, you may call the LRJDC nurse at 434-455-7880.
Bring Meds Original
- ✓ Bring all medications for your child in the original pill bottle.
- ✓ Bring them as soon as possible after admission.
If your child has a medical condition or allergy, tell the nurse or administration immediately. Don't assume it's already been communicated - this is one of the fastest ways to prevent delays or mistakes with care.
Prescriptions and outside medical costs fall on the parent or legal guardian. The exception: if your child is in the Community Placement Program (CPP) or Re-Entry programs, those situations are handled differently.
Practical Next Steps
- ✓ Bring your child’s medications in the original pill bottle as soon as possible after admission.
- ✓ If your child has a medical condition or allergy, notify the nurse or a member of administration immediately.
- ✓ For special medical questions or concerns, call the LRJDC nurse at 434-455-7880.
- ✓ Plan for prescription and outside medical costs unless your child is in CPP or Re-Entry.
You're not starting from zero. LRJDC has a full-time Registered Nurse on-site, a consulting physician available, and a Mental Health Therapist from Horizon Behavioral Health. Call the nurse when you need answers. Focus on two time-sensitive things: get medications to the facility in the original bottle, and report any conditions or allergies right away.
