Before Your First Visit: What to Bring (and Not Bring) to Madera County Jail

Bring a valid photo ID - staff will ask for it when you sign in. Madera County Jail accepts a driver's license, California ID card, military ID, current high school or college ID (if you're still enrolled), passport, or foreign consulate picture ID card. Not sure which to use? Grab whichever is current and easiest to present at check-in.

Leave cameras, cell phones, and recording devices behind. Even if you don't plan to use them, having them on you can create problems at check-in. Secure them in your car before you enter.

Skip the snacks. Madera County Jail doesn't allow gum, candy, drinks, or food in the visitation area - not even small items you'd normally keep in a pocket or purse.

All visitors go through a warrant check. Plan for check-in to take a little extra time because of this.

You may also be searched for contraband before or during your visit. Keep what you bring simple - extra items just slow things down.

Conduct reminder: Disruptive or abusive behavior toward staff - or any other visitation rule violation - can lead to your visiting privileges being suspended or revoked.

Keep your group small. Madera County Jail allows a maximum of two visitors at a time - adults and children combined.

Bringing kids? Plan on being hands-on the entire time. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and supervised constantly - they can't be left alone anywhere on the grounds.
