What to Bring (and Leave Behind) When Visiting David Wade Correctional Center
DWCC is strict about what comes into the Visiting Room. Pack light, bring the right ID, and leave everything else locked in your vehicle. You don't want to lose time at the gate.

Leave electronics (including phones), cameras, recording equipment, alcohol, drugs, and tobacco in your vehicle. If it's not on the allowed list, don't bring it. And don't bring cash to hand to an incarcerated person. Use approved deposit methods like JPAY instead.
If you're 18 or older, you'll need to show a photo ID every time you visit DWCC. Acceptable forms include a valid state driver's license, state photo ID card, active-duty military photo ID, or passport. Not sure if yours will work? Bring a backup government-issued option so you don't get turned away at check-in.
Allowed Small Items Pack
- ✓ Picture ID
- ✓ One car key or one keyless device
- ✓ Change in a see-through bag
- ✓ One credit or debit card
- ✓ If visiting with a small child: one diaper, one baby bottle or child’s cup, one pacifier, and/or baby wipes (in a see-through bag, enough for one diaper change)
Pack as if you're walking in with almost nothing. DWCC limits what you can carry into the Visiting Room. Use a clear, see-through bag for your change. If you're bringing child supplies, keep those in a see-through bag too, and bring only what's needed for one diaper change.
Leave in Vehicle
- ✓ Controlled substances
- ✓ Alcoholic beverages
- ✓ Marijuana
- ✓ Tobacco
- ✓ Cameras
- ✓ Video or audio recording equipment
- ✓ Electronic devices (including cell phones, pagers, BlackBerries, radios)
Don't try to pass money to the person you're visiting. DWCC doesn't allow visitors to give cash directly to an incarcerated person. Deposits have to go through approved methods like JPAY. The simplest way to avoid accidental rule violations? Leave your wallet, purse, and extra cash locked in your vehicle. Carry only what the Visiting Room allows.
Note: You can be searched at any time. This includes your property, your vehicle, and your person. DWCC may use metal detectors, ion scanning, and K-9 units. Refusing a search can mean denied entry or an ended visit.
Need medication during your visit? Plan ahead. Only prescribed medication that's life-saving or life-sustaining is allowed, and you can only bring enough for the length of your visit. Tell staff at the visiting desk that you have medication with you before entering the visiting area.
For small children, DWCC allows a very limited set of supplies into the Visiting Room: one diaper, one baby bottle or child's cup, one pacifier, and/or baby wipes. Keep these items in a see-through bag and bring only enough for one diaper change.
- Aim for the official window: DWCC visiting hours are Thursday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Avoid the mid-day cutoff: Incoming visitors are not admitted between 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
- Do not wait until the end of the day: No visits start after 3:00 p.m., even though visiting hours run to 4:00 p.m.
- ✓ Have your photo ID ready (required every visit for visitors age 18+)
- ✓ Carry only what DWCC allows into the Visiting Room (ID, one car key/keyless device, change in a see-through bag, and one credit/debit card)
- ✓ Lock everything else in your vehicle before you approach processing
Reminder: Expect screening and possible searches, including detectors, ion scanning, and K-9s. Keep prohibited items out of the visiting area. Don't bring money to give directly to an incarcerated person. Use approved deposit methods like JPAY.
