Each imprisoned person in Louisiana can have up to 20 numbers on their approved master telephone list. These can include family, friends, and legal contacts. The list isn't permanent. Updates happen quarterly, so if you need to add or swap a number, that's when changes get processed.

All outgoing prison phone calls are collect calls. The person in prison places the call, and you decide whether to accept the charges. Phones are limited to outgoing calls only.

Calls are short. The typical limit is 15 minutes, so prioritize what you want to cover and pick up promptly when the call comes through.

Cell phones can work, but there are extra steps. The Department allows calls to approved cell phone numbers under specific guidelines. You'll need to set up a Securus account and provide your primary residence information. Start there, since the account setup and residence details are part of the approval process.

Note: Calls to prepaid cell phones are not allowed.
