Before Your First Visit to Maine Correctional Center: Arrival Timing, ID, Screening, and No-Reentry Rules

Maine Correctional Center expects you at your scheduled visit start time. Show up late - even by a few minutes - and you may miss your visit entirely.

Build in extra time for check-in. MCC recommends arriving up to 15 minutes before your scheduled visit time for screening and processing. Don't cut it close.

Staff start admitting visitors to the Visit Room 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. Once that window opens, late arrivals may not be accommodated. Treat that early-admission window as your real deadline.

ID Requirements

  • Valid state-issued photo ID
  • Valid federally issued photo ID
  • Valid state-issued ID
  • Valid federally issued ID
  • Birth certificate

Expect a health screening at check-in. If staff notice active signs or symptoms of COVID-19 (or another contagious illness), you'll be turned away.

MCC also requires that you haven't tested positive for COVID-19 within the 10 days before your visit. If you don't meet this requirement, you won't be allowed in.

Before Your First Visit to Maine Correctional Center: Arrival Timing, ID, Screening, and No-Reentry Rules

No re-entry rule: Once you leave the Visit Room for any reason, you're done - no exceptions, not even for restroom use, regardless of age.

  1. Arrive early - don’t cut it close - You must arrive by your scheduled start time, and MCC recommends allowing up to 15 minutes before that time for screening and processing.
  2. Be ready for admission to start before your visit time - Staff begin admitting visitors to the Visit Room 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time, and they may be unable to accommodate anyone who arrives after visitors have been admitted.
  3. Have the right ID in hand at check-in - Adults must show a valid state or federally issued photo ID. Minors must have either a valid state/federal ID or a birth certificate; insufficient identification can lead to a denied visit.
  4. Pass the health screening - If you have active signs or symptoms of COVID-19 (or another contagious illness) at check-in, you’ll be turned away.
  5. Make sure you meet the 10-day COVID test rule - If you tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 10 days, you won’t be allowed to visit.
  6. Keep contraband out of the facility - Tobacco is contraband at MCC and is prohibited; bringing it can derail your visit.
  7. Use the restroom before you enter the Visit Room - Because leaving the Visit Room ends your visit for the day (no re-entry for any reason, regardless of age), plan ahead before you’re admitted.
