Scheduling Visits at Maine Correctional Center: Understanding the Two-Business-Day Rule

MCC requires visits to be scheduled two business days in advance. Here's where people get tripped up: if you submit your request after 4:00 pm, MCC counts it as the next business day. So a request you finish late on Monday afternoon? It's treated like a Tuesday submission. That can push your earliest available visit slot later than you planned.

Note: Arrive by your scheduled start time, and plan to be there up to 15 minutes early for screening and processing.

MCC is appointment-only. No exceptions. If you show up without one - even hoping for a quick visit - you'll be turned away. Make scheduling your first step.

Having an appointment isn't enough on its own - you also need to be on the resident's approved visiting list. MCC reviews each visitor through its Visitor Application process, which includes a background check. That review determines whether you can be added to the list.

Got a question about visits? You can leave a voicemail for the Visit Office at (207) 893-7109. But here's the catch: voicemail is no longer accepted for scheduling. Since visits require two business days' notice, don't count on a voicemail as your request. Use MCC's official scheduling process and give yourself enough time to meet the deadline.

If you need to submit a Visitor Application, MCC says to mail it through the United States Postal Service to: Visit Office, Maine Correctional Center, 17 Mallison Falls Road, Windham, Maine 04062.

Scheduling Visits at Maine Correctional Center: Understanding the Two-Business-Day Rule
  1. Finish your request before 4:00 pm on Monday - It counts as a Monday request, so the two business days in between are Tuesday and Wednesday, making Thursday the first day that meets the two-business-day rule.
  2. Finish your request after 4:00 pm on Monday - MCC counts it as the next business day (Tuesday), so the two business days in between are Wednesday and Thursday, making Friday the first day that meets the rule.
  3. Finish your request before 4:00 pm on Wednesday - It counts as Wednesday, so the two business days in between are Thursday and Friday, making Monday the first day that meets the two-business-day rule.
  • Make your appointment plans early - visits are appointment only.
  • Build in extra time so you’re not rushing; you must arrive by your scheduled start time.
  • Show up up to 15 minutes before your visit to allow time for screening and processing.

MCC sends visit information by email, so the address on your Visitor Application needs to be accurate and active. Double-check the spelling before you submit. If you're waiting on a message, check your spam or junk folder - important details can end up there.
