What to Expect When Someone Is Booked Into Manatee Jail (Intake & Property Release)
When someone you care about gets arrested in Manatee County, those first hours can feel chaotic. Here's what happens during booking at the Central Jail, when they'll see a judge, and how to pick up their belongings if they're held.
In Manatee County, booking happens at the Central Jail (Main Jail) at 14470 Harlee Road, Palmetto. That’s the location where someone is taken after an arrest to be processed into the jail system.
Once they arrive, intake follows a standard sequence: staff secure personal property, conduct a medical screening, then fingerprint and photograph them. They'll also run a warrants check to confirm identity and flag any other legal holds that could affect what happens next.
If they don't bond out, they'll appear before a judge within 24 hours of the arrest. At this first appearance, the judge explains the charges and may set a bond amount or release conditions. What happens here determines whether they can get out soon or stay in custody while the case proceeds.
During intake, your loved one can't keep any money or money-like items - cash, credit cards, debit cards, gift cards, checks, none of it. These items and other valuables get inventoried at booking and held by the Property Unit until they're released.
- ✓ The inmate must complete and sign a property release form that names you as the recipient
- ✓ Bring a government-issued photo ID when you go to receive the property
Note: Property release requests usually take 48 hours to process, so it may not be something you can pick up immediately.
Practical Tips for Families
- ✓ Bring a government-issued photo ID (it’s required to receive released inmate property)
