After conviction, you typically have 45 days to begin serving your sentence unless the court orders otherwise. That window matters - don't wait until the last minute to get on the calendar. Report in person to the Jail Intake Office on the 2nd floor at the 5th St/Washington St entrance. This is where you'll pick your start date and time, and where staff will give you paperwork and information about your incarceration.

When you show up to begin your sentence, you cannot have any alcohol or illegal drugs in your system. Plan ahead - this is a hard requirement at intake.

If you take prescription medication, bring it in the original container with the pharmacy label showing the medication name, prescribing doctor, and dosing instructions. Keep in mind that not all medications are allowed inside Marathon County Jail - just because something is prescribed doesn't mean it will automatically be accepted.

Note: If you have questions about whether a prescription will be allowed, contact the jail nursing staff before you report.

Marathon County's Electronic Monitoring Program (EMP) is a privilege, not a guarantee. It also affects transfer decisions - because the jail isn't obligated to accept transfer inmates and deals with overcrowding, transfers are generally only considered for people who qualify for EMP.

If you have questions about EMP, call the EMP Office at 715-261-1321. It’s the quickest way to get clarity on what you need to submit and where things stand.

  1. Return the application in person - Drop it off at the Jail Intake Office (2nd floor, entrance at the corner of 5th St/Washington St).
  2. Fax the application - Send it to 715-261-1734.
  3. Email the application - Send it to corlt@co.marathon.wi.us.
