Bringing Children to Visit at Eastern Regional Jail: Notarized Juvenile Visitation Form & What to Do
Bringing a child to visit someone at Eastern Regional Jail in Martinsburg? A little paperwork can make the difference between getting in and being turned away. Here's how juvenile visits work, when you need a notarized Juvenile Visitation Form, and where to submit it.
Minor children can't enter visitation at Eastern Regional Jail (Martinsburg) on their own. They must be accompanied by a parent, another adult immediate family member, or a legal guardian.
Plan your group size carefully. Eastern Regional Jail limits visits to one adult and two children OR two adults. Show up with more people than allowed, and someone may have to sit the visit out.
Note: Birth certificates will only be accepted as identification for minor children who are visiting in the company of a parent or legal guardian.
If a child is visiting with an adult immediate family member who is not the child's parent or legal guardian, that adult must bring a notarized Juvenile Visitation Form. This form is what authorizes that adult to have the minor child on facility grounds for the visit.
The notarized Juvenile Visitation Form must come from the non-incarcerated parent or legal guardian. A parent, legal guardian, or other adult immediate family member may accompany a minor child, but only the non-incarcerated parent or legal guardian can grant permission for the child to be in another adult family member's company at the jail.
Eastern Regional Jail requires ONE (1) FORM PER CHILD. Bringing more than one child? Complete a separate Juvenile Visitation Form for each one so there's no delay at check-in.
- ✓ Child’s identifying information: name, date of birth, sex, race, hair, eyes, height, weight
- ✓ Parent/legal guardian contact information
- ✓ Parent/legal guardian signature fields
The Juvenile Visitation Form must be acknowledged before a notary. Once completed, the original goes into the inmate's file and one copy goes in the Juvenile Visitation file.
Send completed juvenile visiting requests or related juvenile services materials to WV Division of Corrections & Rehabilitation Bureau of Juvenile Services at 1409 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311. Phone: 304-558-2036. Fax: 304-558-6032.
Before you try to schedule a juvenile visit, contact the facility where the offender is located. You'll need background check approval first, and juvenile visits must be scheduled in advance. Getting the timing right matters, because visits are tied to both steps.
Heads up: The Superintendent has the authority to deny a juvenile visit even if a background check has been approved.
