How to Get Approved to Visit Someone at Mass Treatment Center (MTC)

You can't just show up at MTC - visitors need to be pre-approved. First, your loved one must add your name to their pre-approved visiting list. If you're not on it, you won't get in, no matter how far you've traveled.

You'll need to fill out a Visitor Application Form and mail it to Mass Treatment Center (MTC). The state provides the form, and it has to be mailed directly to the institution for processing.

  • Get the Visitor Application Form
  • Fill it out completely
  • Make sure you’re applying to visit Mass Treatment Center (MTC)
  • Mail the completed form to MTC (use the address shown on the form or the Prison Locations page)
  • Keep a copy of what you sent for your records

Once MTC processes your application, you'll receive a decision - approved or denied - and your loved one gets notified too. This shared notification keeps you both on the same page about whether you're cleared to visit.

Approval is just the first step. Visiting hours can change, so call the institution to confirm the current schedule before you head out. A quick call can save you from arriving on a day when things have shifted.

MTC caps the number of people on a visitor list based on security level. Maximum and Medium Security allow up to 8 visitors. Minimum Security/Pre-release allows up to 10. If your loved one's list is full, they'll need to remove someone before adding you.

Note: Exceptions to go over the maximum number of visitors can be requested by the incarcerated person, but they require the Superintendent’s written approval.

Visitor list changes are limited - only three revisions per year are allowed. Coordinate with your loved one before anyone gets added or removed, especially if multiple family members want to visit.
