Inmates at Maury County Jail can send and receive mail through USPS. The big change happened on the incoming side: since February 1, 2021, paper mail isn't physically delivered to inmates anymore. Instead, approved letters, greeting cards, and photos are scanned and sent to the inmate's electronic mail account.

Starting February 1, 2021, Maury County Jail stopped handing out paper mail. Now, incoming letters, greeting cards, and approved photos are scanned and delivered electronically. You can still send a traditional letter through USPS - your loved one will just receive a scanned copy instead of the original.

Note: Don’t expect your loved one to receive the physical card or photo you mailed. Under the current policy, approved items are scanned and delivered as an electronic copy.

When your loved one sends mail from Maury County Jail, the envelope needs to follow specific rules. The upper-left corner must include a legible sender name and the jail's address: 1300 Lawson White Drive, Columbia, TN 38401. Outgoing mail also has to be left unsealed so staff can inspect it - the one exception is legal mail, which inmates can seal before handing it over.

Watch out: The jail will reject outgoing mail if the return address isn't complete. Make sure the sender name and address are fully written and easy to read.

Legal mail gets special treatment. Incoming mail clearly marked as "legal mail" is opened in front of the inmate, checked for contraband, and then handed over. Outgoing legal mail is the one exception to the unsealed rule - inmates can seal it before giving it to staff for mailing.
