What You Can and Can't Mail to McLennan County Jail
McLennan County Jail uses a digital mail system, so what you can send — and where you send it — depends on the type of mail.
Personal mail gets delivered digitally to the recipient's GettingOut tablet (this started November 1, 2022). Attorney-client privileged mail and packages are the exceptions - those still go directly to the facility.
S2
- ✓ Letters (personal mail)
- ✓ Pictures (personal mail)
- ✓ Drawings (personal mail)
- ✓ Any other personal mail meant to be delivered digitally via the GettingOut tablet (effective November 1, 2022)
S3
- ✓ Attorney-client privileged mail (send directly to the facility)
- ✓ Packages and parcels (send directly to the facility)
Photos, drawings, and similar personal items count as personal mail at McLennan County Jail. They go through the same digital process as letters and are delivered to the GettingOut tablet (effective November 1, 2022). Since everything gets scanned, keep in mind that photos and drawings may look different once they're displayed on a tablet screen.
Checks, money orders, and other financial items aren't handled the same way as letters, photos, and drawings. The jail has separate guidelines for these. Confirm the current policy with McLennan County Jail before sending anything like that.
- Confirm it’s truly privileged mail - Attorney-client privileged correspondence is excluded from the digital personal-mail process.
- Send it directly to McLennan County Jail - Privileged legal mail should continue to go to the facility (not through the personal-mail digital delivery route).
- Follow the jail’s current handling instructions - If the jail requires specific markings or procedures for privileged mail, use those requirements; when you’re unsure, confirm with the facility before mailing.
