What to Pack When You Turn Yourself In at Medina County Jail
Turning yourself in is stressful enough without worrying about what to pack. Medina County Jail has specific rules about what they'll accept at intake — here's a quick checklist so you don't bring anything that gets rejected at booking.
When you report matters for how your sentence gets credited. At Medina County Jail, sentences of 72 hours or less are served "to the minute." Longer sentences are counted by day - and to get credit for your first day, you need to check in before 4pm.
Approved Clothing
- ✓ 3 white T-shirts (must have sleeves and no writing; no tank tops)
- ✓ 3 pairs of all-white underwear
- ✓ 3 pairs of all-white socks
- ✓ If you’re a woman: 1 solid white bra with no underwire or padding
Note: Leave the bags and books at home. Stick to the approved basics - you don't want to scramble figuring out what to do with extra stuff at intake.
If you take prescription medication, bring it in the original bottle with the prescription label. The jail verifies prescriptions, and they must be approved by the jail physician before they’ll be dispensed.
You can bring glasses or contact lenses, but only if they’re sealed in their original case. If they aren’t in the original case, expect them to be rejected at intake.
Expect a structured intake when you arrive. Everyone reporting for jail time goes through a search, a body scan, and a mandatory drug test.
Bringing cash? It won't stay in your pocket. Once booking wraps up, any money you brought gets deposited into your inmate account.
- Go to the reception area and sign in - Enter the reception area of the Sheriff’s Office and sign the visitation log when you arrive to commit.
- Use a locker if you have one available - If you have small personal items you can’t take in, store them in a locker if one is available.
- Don’t plan to leave your car there - You’re not permitted to leave your vehicle in the parking lot for the duration of your stay; vehicles left overnight may be towed.
