How to Register for Inmate Calls and What the Rules Are (Memorial Unit Families)

To receive calls from someone at the Memorial Unit, register your phone number through the Texas Inmate Telephone Friends & Family Enrollment. You'll need the inmate's TDCJ ID number - without it, registration won't go through, and calls won't connect to your line.

Need help registering? TDCJ staff are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at (866) 806-7804. Don't have the inmate's TDCJ ID number? Call (936) 295-6371 or (800) 535-0283 to get it. For payment, you can set up a Friends & Family Prepaid account - this lets you deposit money to cover calls to your number.

Who Can Register

  • Confirm you are the registered owner of the telephone number and that you agree to allow the inmate to call it.
  • Confirm you are at least 18 years old.
  • Confirm you will not forward calls, make three-way calls, or use a speakerphone on calls you receive from the inmate.

Unit phones are typically available from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m., though this can change based on facility conditions. Tablet phone hours may differ from the regular unit phone schedule.

Calls are capped at 30 minutes each. A one-minute warning plays before the system disconnects, so wrap up anything important when you hear it. The good news: there's no monthly limit on total phone minutes.

Allowed Disallowed Monitoring

  • Allowed: home landline numbers
  • Allowed: post-paid cell phones
  • Allowed: pre-paid cell phones
  • Not allowed: internet services
  • Not allowed: 800 numbers
  • Not allowed: businesses
  • Not allowed: pay phones
  • Not allowed: international numbers

Note: All calls are subject to monitoring and recording, except calls to the inmate’s attorney of record.

Securus remote video visits run on a fixed schedule - they start and end at set times, not whenever you log in. Each session lasts 60 minutes, costs $10.00, and inmates can only have one remote video visit per month.

Scheduling video time? Pay attention to which system you're using. Securus remote video visits are separate from TDCJ

If calls, e-messaging, tablets, or Securus video aren't working right, contact TDCJ Inmate Technology Services (ITS). Starting February 2, 2026, ITS office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., except state holidays. For system information and registration, call (866) 806-7804 (staff available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). To file a complaint about vendor service for the Inmate Telephone System, E-Messaging, inmate tablets, or Securus video, use the ITS Contact Form, email offenderphones@tdcj.texas.gov, or write to: Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Information Technology Division, Inmate Technology Services Contract Manager, PO Box 4016, Huntsville, TX 77342-4016.
