If Your Visitation Status Is 'Pending Approval' or 'Not Approved for Visits' (Memorial Unit)

Pending Approval” means your relationship request hasn’t been reviewed and confirmed yet. In the TDCJ online scheduler, that request will sit on your visitor home page under the “Relation Requests Pending Approval” section until TDCJ staff approves it.

Once TDCJ staff confirms the visitor/inmate relationship, it moves out of pending and into “Verified Inmate Relations.” From there, you can schedule a visit if you see the “Schedule Visit” button next to the person’s name - if that button is present, the system is allowing you to request a visit.

Not Approved for Visits: If the relationship is confirmed but the inmate’s visitation privileges have been removed, the scheduler will replace the “Schedule Visit” button with the message “Not Approved for Visits.”

When you are able to schedule, the system may ask you to choose a visit type. The scheduler lists four types: Regular, Contact, and Video/Tablet - plus the option to request an Extended or Special Visit when it’s offered. One detail that trips people up: “Video/Tablet” in the TDCJ scheduler is not the same thing as the Securus Video program (which is only offered at limited units).

If you’re looking at dates and it feels like the calendar is “missing” options, a common reason is that the inmate already has a visit scheduled that week. The scheduler won’t show any dates that fall during a week where that inmate already has a visit on the books, so you may need to look at a different week to find openings.

Next Steps Families

  • Check your visitor home page for the request under “Relation Requests Pending Approval” while you wait for staff review
  • Watch for the relationship to move to “Verified Inmate Relations” after approval
  • Once it’s verified, look for the “Schedule Visit” button next to the inmate’s name (that’s the sign the system will let you schedule)

If you see “Not Approved for Visits”: That message means the Schedule Visit button has been replaced because visitation privileges have been removed, so you won’t be able to schedule a visit through the scheduler while that status is in place.
