Your First Visit: IDs Accepted, Who Can Come, and Visitor Limits at Mendocino County Jail

A valid state driver's license is the preferred ID at Mendocino County Jail. A state identification card works too, as long as it has your photo, physical description, and signature. Other official IDs may be accepted - but they need those same three elements: photo, physical description, and signature.

Note: If your ID type isn’t on the preferred list, it has to be approved by the Facility Supervisor before you’ll be allowed in.

Bringing a child to see a parent? Plan to come with an eligible adult. Mendocino County Jail only allows an inmate's minor child to visit when accompanied by an approved adult visitor. You'll also need to prove the relationship between the child and the inmate to Corrections Division staff - don't assume it will be obvious at the door.

There's an exception for some visitors under 18. Emancipated minors and an inmate's spouse who is under 18 can visit without an escort - but only with proper identification.

Only three visitors can see an inmate at the same time. Any child of walking age counts as one visitor. If you're coming as a family, decide ahead of time who goes in for that session and who waits.

Feeling sick? Reschedule your visit. The jail won't admit anyone with a contagious disease, so it's better to plan for another day than get turned away at check-in.

Heads up: Some situations require Facility Supervisor approval before you can visit. If you think your circumstances might fall into that category, get approval sorted out before making the trip.

When you fill out a visitor registration form on the day of your visit, the jail shreds the paper copy after entering your information into their computer system.
