Before You Enter: Completing the Visitor Pass at Mercer County Correction Center
Your visit starts before you even reach the lobby. At Mercer County Correction Center, an officer will hand you a Visitor Pass outside — and you'll need to fill it out before going in.
The Visitor Pass is a form you complete as part of check-in. An Outside Security Officer hands it to you and asks you to fill it out before entering the lobby. Expect a quick stop outside to finish the paperwork, then you'll move on to the rest of screening.
Bring a pen or pencil: No writing utensils are available for visitors, so you’ll need your own to complete the Visitor Pass.
Once you've completed the Visitor Pass and head inside, you'll go through a temperature check. Staff use an infrared thermometer. If your temperature is under 100.0°F, you're cleared to continue. At 100.0°F or higher, you'll be escorted back to your vehicle and asked to leave the grounds.
You'll also need to show ID. Acceptable forms include a Driver's License, Welfare Card, Employment ID card, College or School ID, any State ID card, or a valid passport. No ID? Staff can refuse the visit - it's that simple.
Before entering the visit area, everyone goes through a pat-frisk search. Wear clothing that makes this easy, and follow staff directions closely.
After you’re approved: Once your visit is approved and you meet the entry criteria, you’ll be given a disinfecting wipe to sanitize your visit station.
Mask rule: You must wear a mask at all times during the visit. If you don’t, the visit can be terminated and your visiting privileges can be revoked for at least 30 days, up to indefinitely.
Tips Avoid Delays
- ✓ Bring your own pen or pencil to complete the Visitor Pass (no writing utensils are provided).
- ✓ Bring an acceptable ID (Driver’s License, Welfare Card, Employment ID, College/School ID, any State ID card, or a valid passport).
- ✓ Dress for the visiting area: no orange-colored clothing, sleeveless shirts, spandex, short shorts, mini-skirts, sheer clothing, low-cut blouses, pajama pants, sweaters, coats, jackets, hats, or scarves.
- ✓ Be prepared for a temperature check; entry is granted only if your temperature is under 100.0°F.
- ✓ Wear a mask at all times during the visit to avoid termination and loss of visiting privileges.
The easiest way to avoid a wasted trip? Double-check your ID before leaving home. Give yourself enough time to complete the Visitor Pass and get through screening without rushing.
