What to Wear (and What Not to Wear) When Visiting Mercer County Detention Center
Mercer County Detention Center enforces a strict dress code for visitors. Keep your outfit simple and conservative—otherwise, you might get turned away at check-in.
Skip anything orange. If you're unsure how a shade looks under indoor lighting, just pick a different color. Not worth the hassle at the door.
Sleeveless shirts aren't allowed. Neither is spandex - so leave the leggings at home and stick with regular, everyday clothes.
Leave short shorts and mini-skirts at home. Sheer clothing and low-cut blouses are also not allowed in the visiting area, so aim for coverage you won’t have to adjust or worry about once you’re inside.
Pajama pants won't fly, even if they look like regular lounge pants. Sweaters, coats, and jackets aren't permitted either. Same goes for hats and scarves - leave them in the car.
Other-visiting-area-prohibitions
- ✓ Handbags are not allowed in the visiting area.
- ✓ Paper or plastic bags are not allowed in the visiting area.
- ✓ Baby chairs are not allowed in the visiting area.
- ✓ Children’s toys are not allowed in the visiting area.
Planning a longer visit? Vending machines in the visiting area sell food and drinks. And if you smoke, plan ahead - smoking isn't allowed in the lobby or visiting areas.
Once you're assigned a seat, you're stuck there. Grab everything you need before sitting down, and don't trade places with family members - switching seats can end your visit early.
