Why That Email Address Matters: What to Know Before Creating Your TDCJ Visitation Account

When you create a TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler account, the email address you choose isn't just a casual detail - it's permanent. Once an account is created, you can't delete it or change the email tied to it. So take a moment to pick an address you'll still have access to months or years from now, not just whatever's convenient today.

Heads up: If you lose access to the email you used, you can end up locked out of the scheduler for that account - because the email can’t be changed and the account can’t be deleted.

After you submit your email during account creation, the scheduler sends a message with a 7-digit validation code and a link to complete registration. Don't ignore that email. Until you use the code and follow the link, your setup isn't finished - and you won't be able to schedule visits.

Don’t skip this step: If you sign up with an email you can’t access (or never complete verification), you can end up stuck with an account tied to an email that can’t be changed.

Here's something else to know: visitors must create their own accounts. TDCJ staff can't do it for you. Staff can help update certain details - like your name or address - after an account exists, but getting it set up correctly from the start is on you.

Why this matters: Because staff can’t create your account - and the scheduler won’t let you change the email later - using an email you control is part of protecting your ability to schedule visits.

  • Use an email address you personally control and expect to keep long-term.
  • Avoid using an email you can’t reliably access (old accounts, shared logins you don’t manage, or anything you may lose).
  • Complete the email verification as soon as the message arrives.
  • Keep your login details in a safe place you can access later.
  • Remember: you’re responsible for creating your own account - staff can’t do the initial setup for you.
  1. Enter a valid, personal email address - choose an inbox you can access anytime, since the email on the account can’t be changed later.
  2. Watch for the verification email - the scheduler will send a message with a 7-digit validation code and a link.
  3. Complete registration using the link and code - follow the email’s link and use the 7-digit code to finish setting up your account.
  4. Store your credentials securely - you’ll want them handy the next time you need to sign in.

Shared-family tip: If more than one person in your family is visiting, it’s usually simpler for each visitor to use their own email/account. The scheduler won’t let you change the email later, and staff can’t create accounts for you if something goes wrong.
