What Happened to In-Person Visits? Understanding Middle River's Video-Only Policy
If you showed up expecting a traditional contact visit, you're not alone. Middle River Regional Jail no longer offers face-to-face public visits—everything has moved to video.
Middle River Regional Jail no longer schedules in-person visits for the public. All visits now happen through video - either on-site at the jail using their video consoles, or remotely from home.
Why the change? The jail says video visitation makes scheduling easier and opens up more time slots for families. The system can handle more visits overall, with more flexible hours than traditional in-person sessions allowed.
What Families Gain
- ✓ On-site video visitation is cost-free.
- ✓ The free on-site visit is limited to 1 visit per inmate per week.
Want to visit from the jail itself? You can use on-site video consoles during several windows each week. Monday through Friday, on-site video visits run 8:30am to 10:30am, 1:30pm to 3:45pm, and 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Weekends offer two sessions: 8:30am to 10:30am and 1:30pm to 3:45pm.
Note: On-site video visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.
If Preferred Face to Face
- ✓ Inmates receive one additional free remote video visit per week.
- ✓ Inmates also receive one free phone call and two free message credits each week; these renew each Saturday and can’t be accumulated.
- Add funds for telephone calls online - Funds for telephone calls may be added via the Access Corrections website.
- Deposit to a trust account by phone - Call (866) 345-1884 to speak with a live, bilingual agent and make a deposit to an inmate’s trust account.
If video-only visitation creates a hardship for your family, reach out to the jail directly. Staff can explain your options and clarify how scheduling works for your specific situation. A quick call can save you a wasted trip.
