Before You Go: What You Can't Bring to Middle River Regional Jail
Your visit can go smoothly—or end at the front desk—depending on what you walk in with. Here's what to leave behind so you don't get turned away or risk a ban.
How to send messages, photos, and packages
Staying in touch with someone at Middle River Regional Jail means video visits, phone calls, and messaging. Each inmate receives one additional free remote video visit per week, one free phone call, and two free message credits. Credits renew every Saturday and don't roll over. To send messages or photos, create a Friends & Family account in your name on the Smart Communications website. Starting August 12, 2025, messaging accounts will require a government-issued photo ID and a current photograph for approval. For phone funding, deposit to an inmate's TRUST account through Access Corrections (online or 866-345-1884). Use SmartInmate for PPC or PIN Debit deposits (888-843-1972 or SmartInmate.com). If your number is blocked, call (540) 245-5420 to request unblocking.

Middle River Regional Jail gives each inmate free communication credits every week. Once you know what's included and when they reset, you can plan visits, calls, and messages without surprise charges.
