Where to Send Mail for an Inmate at Middleton Unit (Digital Processing Center vs Unit Exceptions)
Middleton Unit uses TDCJ's digital mail platform. As of September 6, 2023, most incoming mail gets routed to the Digital Mail Processing Center, where staff scan it and upload it to the inmate's secure tablet. The original paper letter isn't delivered.
Note: Photos and greeting cards you send through the Digital Mail Processing Center are scanned in color and uploaded to the inmate’s tablet.
For digitally processed mail, address your envelope to: Texas Department of Criminal Justice, PO Box 660400, Dallas, TX 75266-0400. Include the inmate's full first and last name plus their TDCJ number so staff can match it to the right person.
Legal mail is an exception. Send it directly to the inmate's assigned unit - not the Digital Mail Processing Center.
Media mail also skips digital processing. Send it directly to the unit.
Books, magazines, packages, and subscriptions from verified publishers are exceptions too. Mail those directly to the unit.
Checklist Before Mailing
- ✓ Confirm the inmate’s full first and last name and TDCJ number before you address anything
- ✓ For digital-processing mail, write the inmate’s full first and last name + TDCJ number on the envelope
- ✓ If you’re sending photos or greeting cards through the Digital Mail Processing Center, expect them to be scanned in color and uploaded to the inmate’s tablet
- ✓ Keep in mind Middleton Unit has been on TDCJ’s digital mail platform since September 6, 2023, so most personal mail goes through the processing center
Warning: Don’t send legal mail, media mail, or books/magazines/packages/subscriptions to the Digital Mail Processing Center - those exceptions must be sent to the unit.
No tablet? Your mail still gets through. Scanned correspondence is printed in black-and-white and delivered to the inmate.
