Deposit Fees at Midland County Jail: how TouchPay fees work for different deposit amounts
At Midland County Jail, deposits to an inmate’s account go through TouchPay. You can add money three ways: at the lobby kiosk (using cash or a credit/debit card), online through TouchPay, or by phone using the automated line at 866-232-1899.
If you're used to mailing in a money order, you'll need to switch - money orders and cashier's checks are no longer accepted for inmate deposits here. Fees depend on how much you're sending, and if you pay with a card, there's an extra percentage charge on top (more on that below).
TouchPay's base fee is tiered by deposit amount. For smaller deposits ($0 to $20), the base fee is $3.95. Sending between $20.01 and $100? That's $4.95. For $100.01 to $200, expect a $5.95 base fee.
Card fee heads-up: For each credit/debit card transaction, TouchPay charges the base fee for your tier plus an additional 7.5% of the transaction amount.
The base fee tiers apply whether you deposit at the lobby kiosk, by phone (IVR), or online - same fees across all three. What changes your final total is your payment method: credit or debit cards add 7.5% of the deposit amount on top of the base fee.
If you want an in-person option, the lobby kiosk takes cash or credit/debit card. The facility notes the kiosk is available during normal lobby hours at the Central Detention Facility.
Practical Advice
- ✓ Double-check the fee tier before you hit “submit,” especially if you’re right around a cutoff like $20 or $100.
- ✓ If you’re making multiple small deposits, consider consolidating into fewer transactions so you don’t pay the base fee over and over.
- ✓ Remember card payments add 7.5% on top of the base fee; if you’re trying to keep costs down, compare that to using cash at the kiosk.
- ✓ If you’re depositing at the kiosk, bring both payment options if you can (cash and a card) so you’re not stuck if one method doesn’t work.
- ✓ Don’t assume “bail” and “inmate account” deposits have the same fees - bail uses its own fee tiers.
- ✓ If you’re paying bail, confirm the payment is being processed as bail (not a regular account deposit) before you complete the transaction.
Bail payments have their own fee schedule. For bail deposits from $0 to $100, the fee is $5. For $100.01 to $200, it's $10. Not sure whether your payment counts as "bail" or a standard inmate account deposit? Confirm first - the fees can be different.
