Paying Bail at Midland County Jail: accepted methods and the 7.5% card surcharge
Paying bail is stressful enough without surprises at checkout. Here's how Midland County Jail accepts bail payments and what that 7.5% card surcharge actually means for your total.
Midland County Jail only accepts bail payments through approved electronic channels. You can pay at the lobby kiosk with cash or a credit/debit card, or pay online through TouchPay Online. For regular inmate account deposits (not bail), you also have the option to call 866-232-1899.
Heads up: Money orders and cashier's checks aren't accepted for inmate deposits. Use the kiosk, online option, or phone system instead.
Paying by card? Build the surcharge into your budget. TPH charges a base fee for each transaction plus an additional 7.5% of the transaction amount. So the total you pay isn't just the bail - you'll see the base fee and then 7.5% tacked on.
Example: For bail in the $0–$100 range, the base fee is $5. Pay by card and TPH adds 7.5% of the transaction amount on top. Your total: bail amount + $5 + 7.5% of the bail.
- ✓ Ask for or review the total cost before you hit “submit” on a card payment
- ✓ Make sure the total includes both the base fee and the extra 7.5% of the transaction amount
- ✓ If you’re splitting payments, remember the 7.5% applies to each card transaction
Paying in person? The lobby kiosk is available during normal lobby hours at the Central Detention Facility. Since bail must go through the kiosk or TouchPay Online, confirm lobby access before you make the trip.
- ✓ Decide whether you’re paying at the lobby kiosk (cash or card) or using TouchPay Online
- ✓ If you’re considering paying by phone for a deposit, use 866-232-1899
- ✓ Before you pay, confirm the total fees you’ll be charged - especially if you’re using a card
- ✓ If you’re going in person, go during normal lobby hours so you can access the kiosk
Want to keep costs down? Look at the fee structure before choosing how to pay. Card transactions add a base fee plus 7.5% - that percentage adds up fast. For bail in the $0–$100 range, the base fee is $5. For small inmate-account deposits ($0–$20), the fee is $3.95 whether you use the lobby kiosk, phone (IVR), or web. Confirm the full total before you authorize a card charge.
