Visiting with a Child at Midland County Jail: Rules, Liability Forms, and Guardianship

Children under 17 can only visit their parent during a specific window: the first Saturday through Tuesday of each month. Show up outside that four-day period, and the child visit will be denied - even if adult visitation is happening.

Only one child can visit at a time, and they must be accompanied by their parent or guardian throughout the entire visit. This isn't a drop-off situation. If you're caring for multiple children, plan ahead for transportation or childcare.

Bringing a child counts toward the inmate's daily visit limit. Each inmate can receive two visits per visitation day, and a child's visit uses one of those slots.

Forms Guardianship

• ✓ A signed liability release form (the parent or guardian must sign this before the child’s first visit)
• ✓ If the inmate does not list you as the guardian: letters of guardianship to provide to the Detention Division (required under specified sections of the Texas Estate Code)

The child's parent or guardian must sign a liability release form before the first visit. If you're visiting as a guardian and the inmate hasn't listed you as such, bring letters of guardianship - the jail requires these under specified sections of the Texas Estate Code. Have the paperwork ready at check-in to avoid a wasted trip.

You're responsible for your child's behavior the entire time you're at the facility. Don't leave children unattended in the lobby or outside. If a child becomes disruptive or wanders away during the visit, staff can end it immediately. Repeated issues may result in the child or guardian being denied future visits.
