Where to Send Mail for Someone at Midland County Jail: Personal mail, legal mail, and the Securus scanning center
Midland County Jail doesn't accept personal mail directly at the facility. Instead, all personal letters go through the Securus Digital Mail Center in Tampa. Staff there scan incoming mail into the system, and your loved one reads it on the jail's kiosks rather than holding the original paper in their hands.
Heads up: As of July 18, 2019, Midland County Sheriff’s Office no longer accepts personal mail at the jail. Personal mail needs to be sent through the Securus Digital Mail Center instead.
Address personal mail to the Securus Digital Mail Center in Tampa. Put the incarcerated person's full name and inmate ID on the first line, followed by the facility name, then the Securus routing information: Inmate Full Name – Inmate ID Midland County, TX Jail C/O Securus Digital Mail Center PO BOX 21227 Tampa, FL 33622
- ✓ Inmate’s full name
- ✓ Inmate ID number
- ✓ “Midland County, TX Jail”
- ✓ “C/O Securus Digital Mail Center”
- ✓ PO BOX 21227, Tampa, FL 33622
- ✓ Your full return name and return address (required)
Legal mail and publications follow a different path. Send these directly to the local Detention Division - not to Tampa. This includes publications shipped straight from a publisher, distributor, or authorized retailer: Inmate Full Name – Inmate ID C/O Midland County Sheriff's Office - Detention Division P.O. Box 11387 Midland, TX 79701
- ✓ Send books as paperbacks only (no hardback books)
- ✓ Used books are allowed
- ✓ Have books shipped directly from the publisher, Amazon, or reputable distributors
Since personal mail gets scanned, your loved one will read it on the jail's kiosks. Getting the address right matters - if staff can't process your letter cleanly, it may get returned instead of delivered.
- Decide if you need your photos back - if you want pictures returned to you, you’ll need to plan for that before you seal the envelope.
- Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope - place it inside your mailing along with the pictures.
- Mail the packet using the normal personal-mail address format - that way the mail can be processed and your return envelope is already inside.
Common return triggers: Mail can come back if the person is no longer in custody, refuses the mail, the sender name/address or delivery address isn't legible, the pictures are inappropriate, or the mail contains contraband. Prohibited items include blank sheets of paper, calendars, games/puzzles, coloring pages, money orders/cash/checks, hard plastic or laminations, and music boxes.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Write the inmate’s full name and inmate ID clearly
- ✓ Put your full return name and return address on the outside of the envelope
- ✓ Keep contents simple and avoid prohibited items (for example: blank sheets of paper, calendars, puzzles/word games, coloring pages, money orders/cash/checks, hard plastic or laminations, music boxes)
- ✓ If you’re sending books, use paperbacks only (no hardbacks)
- ✓ Have books shipped directly from the publisher, Amazon, or reputable distributors
Returned mail usually has a fixable cause. The person may have been released or transferred. They might have refused the mail. Or the sender/recipient info wasn't legible. Double-check your handwriting, include complete return address info, and keep photos appropriate to give your letter the best shot at getting through.
