What to Bring (and What to Leave Home) for Your First Visit at Monmouth County Correctional Institution
Your first visit goes much smoother when you show up with the right documents and a plan for everything else. Use this checklist to breeze through screening at Monmouth County Correctional Institution without any surprises.
You must be at least 18 years old to register for a visit at Monmouth County Correctional Institution. Bring a valid U.S. government-issued photo ID - you'll need it at check-in. If your ID is damaged or you're not sure it'll pass, don't risk it. Grab an acceptable backup so you don't get turned away at the front desk.
If you’re bringing a minor: A parent or legal guardian must present the minor’s original birth certificate when you arrive for the scheduled visit.
Prohibited Items
- ✓ Cell phones
- ✓ Cigarettes
- ✓ Lighters
- ✓ Matches
- ✓ Food
- ✓ Drinks
- ✓ Bags
- ✓ Weapons
Reminder: Nothing can be passed to or from the inmate during visits, so don’t bring anything you were hoping to hand over.
Want to bring money for an inmate? Monmouth County Correctional Institution only accepts money orders or certified checks made out to the inmate in person. Bring these during regular visiting hours, or drop them off at Booking any other time. No cash, no personal checks. If you'd rather use a credit card, you'll need to send funds through ConnectNetwork.com - that option isn't available at the facility itself.
Think about your layers before you arrive. The visiting room doesn't allow overcoats, topcoats, jackets, heavy-gauge jackets, or full-length jackets. Show up wearing one, and you'll have to store it before going in. Lockers are available for your belongings, so your best bet is to dress in lighter layers and only bring what you can easily secure.
Bags won’t make it past the door: Since bags aren’t allowed in the Visit Hall, plan to leave them in your vehicle or use a locker if available.
Everyone goes through a metal detector before entering the Visit Hall - think airport security. Keep your pockets simple and skip anything that might slow you down at screening.
Plan ahead: Once you enter the visiting hall, you may not leave until your visit is over.
Monmouth County Correctional Institution enforces a dress code, and staff can deny entry if you don't follow it. If that happens, stay calm. Ask what part of your clothing doesn't meet requirements, then fix what you can - maybe store an item in a locker - before trying again.
- Confirm you meet the age requirement - Visitors registering for a visit must be at least 18 years old.
- Make sure you have valid photo ID in hand - Bring a valid U.S. government-issued photo ID for check-in.
- If you’re visiting with a child, bring the right document - A parent/legal guardian must present the minor’s original birth certificate at arrival for the scheduled visit.
- Reschedule if you can’t fix it that day - If you don’t have the required ID or documents with you, plan to return once you do.
