Before Your First Visit to Monroe Correctional Complex: arrival, check-in, ID, searches, and what to bring
Your first visit to Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC) goes smoother when you know what to expect at the door. Here's a quick checklist to review before you leave home.
Aim to arrive about 15 minutes before your scheduled visit time. You'll check in at the visitor entrance, and between parking, walking in, and getting through screening, those extra minutes disappear fast.
Anyone 18 or older needs a valid, current photo ID to enter. MCC accepts a driver's license, state ID card, or passport. Expired IDs won't work - staff check expiration dates at the door, so double-check yours before you leave.
Exception (rare): The Superintendent or a designee can authorize an alternate form of ID in exceptional cases. Don't count on this - always bring a valid photo ID.
At check-in, you'll sign a form called DOC 21-575, "Acknowledgment of Visitor Search Requirements." It's standard procedure - signing confirms you understand that screening and searches are part of the entry process.
- ✓ Pat searches
- ✓ Electronic screening
- ✓ Vehicle searches
- ✓ Personal property searches
- ✓ Canine searches
Refusing a search has consequences: A first refusal means a 90-day suspension of your visiting privileges. Refuse a second time, and you could lose visitation entirely.
Need prescription medication or medical equipment during your visit? You can bring it, but carry proof - a prescription label or medical authorization. This applies to items you'll actually need while you're there, so plan ahead.
- ✓ Bring prescription meds in the original container
- ✓ Make sure the container shows your name
- ✓ The label must list the medication name, the pharmacy, and the prescribing physician
- ✓ Bring only the limited amount needed for the visit
Leave your phone in the car. Cell phones and other electronics aren't allowed in the visit room - store them before you head inside.
Medical-device note: Even if your medical device normally pairs with a phone (like some glucose monitors), you still can't bring the phone into visiting.
Want to grab something from vending? You'll need an MCC vending card - cash doesn't work directly. Cards are purchased with a $5 bill and can hold up to $99.00, so decide ahead of time how much you want to load.
