Visitor application process for Monroe (how it works, realistic wait times, and what delays approval)
Before you can visit someone at Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC), you need to be on their approved visitor list. Submit a visitor application, wait for approval, and then you can schedule your visit.
Once you’re approved, keep the headcount in mind when you’re making plans: each incarcerated individual may have up to seven approved visitors per visit. If your group is larger than that, you’ll need to plan separate visits.
DOC policy says visiting applications should be processed within 30 business days of receipt. That's the official target.
Right now, expect a longer wait. The public FAQ lists approximately 50 business days from submission due to high application volume. Since "business days" excludes weekends and holidays, the calendar wait stretches longer than you'd think.
- ✓ Plan around the current estimate of about 50 business days (not counting weekends/holidays) from the date you submit.
- ✓ If you’re checking status, have the incarcerated person’s name and six-digit DOC number ready so staff can find the right record.
- ✓ Avoid sending multiple applications for the same visitor unless you’re specifically directed to do so in writing by the Statewide Visit Unit - duplicates can slow processing.
- ✓ If your application is taking longer than expected, use the facility and Statewide Visit Unit contact routes listed in this guide when you follow up.
Why the delay? Volume. The Department is processing a high number of applications, and that backlog directly drives longer wait times.
Note: Some applications require extra review, including review by the Visit Multi-Disciplinary Team. Submitting complete, accurate information the first time helps you avoid delays from back-and-forth requests.
- Contact the Statewide Visit Unit by email or voicemail - this is the route for updating a visitor’s name or contact information on an application.
- Include the incarcerated individual’s name and six-digit DOC number - put it in your subject line if you’re emailing, and say it clearly if you’re leaving a message.
- List your current name and any previous name(s) - this helps staff match you to the application on file.
- Add where your identification was issued - include the state or country.
- Be ready to verify your identity if asked - they may reach out with follow-up questions or request additional information.
Note: Your visitor name must match the name on your current ID. A mismatch can delay your approval or get you turned away at check-in.
If you’re sending Extended Family Visit (EFV) applications and supporting paperwork, mail them to: Department of Corrections, Attn: EFV Application, PO Box 41118, Olympia, WA 98504-1118.
For MCC WSRU in-person visits, plan ahead - these must be prescheduled online at least five days in advance. If you're hoping to visit soon, that lead time matters.
