What you can't bring to Monroe County Jail: a visitor's checklist

  • Food
  • Beverages (including drinks)
  • Cell phones
  • Tobacco products and tobacco-related devices

Once you arrive, you’ll sign the register in the main lobby. Before you go past the main lobby, staff will issue you a visitor badge and stamp your left hand - so plan to have your hands free and your personal items already put away.

Monroe County Jail is completely tobacco-free. No smoking anywhere on the grounds, and you can't bring tobacco products or vaping devices into the facility, adjoining buildings, or surrounding property.

Got cigarettes, vapes, or a lighter? Leave them locked in your car or stash them in a locker before you head inside.

Outerwear stays in the lobby. Jackets, coats, and hats need to go on the coat rack or into a locker before you head further into the facility.

Tip: Grab a locker token at the reception counter to store your stuff before heading past the lobby.

Weapons aren't allowed inside. If you're an official visitor arriving with a weapon, you'll need to secure it with the receptionist before entering.

Everyone goes through a metal detector. If you've got prohibited items on you, you'll have to step out and secure them - in your car or a locker - before coming back through. That eats into your visit time.
