How to Pick Up an Inmate's Property After They're Released from Monroe County Jail
Picking up someone's belongings after they leave Monroe County Jail comes down to three things: being the person they authorized, showing up during pickup hours, and bringing the right ID.
Everything starts with authorization from the inmate. They'll need to fill out a property release form - provided by the deputy in their housing unit - naming the specific person allowed to retrieve their belongings. If your name isn't on that form, you won't be able to pick anything up.
Once you're listed on the release form, you can collect the personal property that was stored with the inmate's belongings. One exception: clothing items aren't included in what you can pick up through this process.
Pickup hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30am to 5:30pm, excluding holidays. Show up outside that window and you'll have to come back another day.
Bring photo ID: The person picking up property must present a valid government-issued photo ID at pickup.
Commissary orders follow a different timeline. If the inmate placed an order but got released before it arrived, they - or a designated family member - have five (5) days to pick it up. After that, the order gets destroyed. Don't wait if you think there's an order pending.
