Can a Convicted Felon or Parolee Visit Someone at Monterey County Jail? How to Get Approval

At Monterey County Jail, anyone previously convicted of a felony and confined in a California state prison falls under Penal Code 4571 (PC 4571) for visitation purposes. You won't be allowed to visit without consent from the Jail/Facility Commander. This isn't something you can sort out at the visiting window. You need to fill out the convicted-felon visitation form (PC 4571) beforehand, and approval must be in place before you arrive.

Note: The approved convicted-felon form is only valid for the incarcerated person’s current in-custody period.

Can a Convicted Felon or Parolee Visit Someone at Monterey County Jail? How to Get Approval
  1. Complete the PC 4571 convicted-felon form before you try to visit - Monterey County Jail requires convicted felons to fill this out prior to visiting.
  2. Get pre-approval from the Facility Commander - without the commander’s consent, you won’t be allowed to visit.
  3. Make a copy for visiting day - you’ll need to show proof of prior approval when you arrive.
  4. Present the copy to the visiting deputy when you check in - the visiting deputy must see the completed, approved form at the time of your visit.
  5. Don’t expect a visit without the paperwork - if you don’t have proof of prior approval with you, the jail will not grant the visit.

Reminder: If you show up without proof of prior approval (a copy of the completed form), you will be turned away and the visit won’t happen.

If you're on parole, the rule is simple: you cannot visit Monterey County Jail without written permission from your parole agent. Bring that documentation with you - staff may ask to see it before letting you in.

Practical Tips

  • Completed PC 4571 convicted-felon visitation form with Facility Commander approval
  • A copy of the completed, approved form to hand to the visiting deputy when you arrive
  • Written permission from your parole agent (if you’re on parole)
  • Paperwork ready to present at check-in (the form is only valid for the inmate’s current in-custody period)
