How to Visit Someone at Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF): Hours, IDs, and Visitor Rules
Visiting someone at MCCF gets a lot easier once you know the schedule and show up with the right ID. Use the sections below as your checklist before heading out.
Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF) is located at 22880 Whelan Lane, Boyds, Maryland 20841. The facility’s phone number is 240-773-9700.
Family visiting runs three times daily: 8:00am–11:00am, 1:30pm–4:00pm, and 6:00pm–8:30pm. One exception - no family visits on Wednesdays. Also worth noting: MCCF's visiting week starts on Sunday, which affects how your visits are counted.
Eligible inmates can receive two visits per week. The count resets every Sunday, so plan accordingly if you're trying to squeeze in a second visit before the week ends.
Note: Visits typically last forty minutes, though staff may shorten them during busy periods.
Up to four visitors can see an inmate per week. Here's the catch: everyone in your group needs to arrive together and sign in at the same time. Late arrivals won't be added once the visit starts.
ID Address
- ✓ Bring a photo ID that shows your address.
- ✓ If your photo ID does not show an address, bring a separate proof-of-address item (for example, an electric bill). No exceptions.
Need to store personal items? MCCF has public lockers available. Bring a quarter - you'll get it back when you're done. Just know that MCCF isn't responsible for anything left in lockers or your car, so secure your belongings before heading inside.
You'll go through screening when you arrive. All visitors and belongings are checked for contraband, and you must clear the metal detector. If you can't pass screening, you may be turned away.
Tip: Travel light - everything you bring gets screened. Leave extra items in your car or use a public locker (bring a quarter). MCCF isn't responsible for items left in lockers or vehicles.
Bringing a child? Minors under 18 must be related to either the inmate or the adult visitor. They also need to be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or another responsible adult approved by DOCR staff.
Turned Away
- ✓ Re-check your photo ID: if it doesn’t show an address, bring a separate proof-of-address item (for example, an electric bill).
- ✓ Remove anything that could trigger the metal detector and try again; if you can’t clear screening, you can be denied entry or the visit.
- Count the week correctly - MCCF’s visiting week begins on Sunday, so think Sunday through Saturday when you’re planning your next attempt.
- Check how many visits are left - eligible inmates may receive two visits per week, so a denial may mean you’ll need to wait until the next visiting week or use the remaining slot if one is still available.
