Before Your First Video Visit: What You Need to Know About Montgomery Pretrial's Rules
Your first video visit goes smoother when you know the rules upfront. The checklists below cover scheduling, dress code, and the violations that get visits cut off.
Montgomery Pretrial limits each inmate to one visitor per week for video visitation. Coordinate with family or friends ahead of time so the right person gets that week's slot.
If you visit at the onsite Video Visitation Center, budget your time carefully. Sessions max out at two hours, so arrive ready to start on time.
Scheduling has a firm window: you can book up to 14 days in advance, but no less than 24 hours before the visit time. Trying to visit tomorrow? It's already too late to schedule.
Cost and setup: Remote video visits through GettingOut cost $0.25 per minute. The onsite Video Visitation Center at 500 E. Adams St is free. For remote visits, the inmate initiates the call to you once you've created a GettingOut account and uploaded your ID for verification.
Dress rules apply even on a screen. Staff decide what counts as "appropriately attired," and they can end your visit if they object. Avoid transparent clothing, tight clothing without proper undergarments, costumes, anything that disguises your identity, or clothing that reveals buttocks, breasts, back, or stomach.
No exceptions: Absolutely no nudity is allowed during video visitation.
Recording is strictly prohibited. Montgomery Pretrial bans recording, live streaming, or rebroadcasting video visits on any platform, even if you just want to save the moment for family.
If staff detect recording activity, they'll terminate the visit immediately. The call ends mid-conversation with no chance to finish.
Some violations carry heavy consequences right away. Taking screenshots, recording, live streaming, rebroadcasting, or creating multiple accounts to dodge a suspension all result in an automatic one-year suspension for the visitor on the first offense.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Choose clothing that is clearly appropriate for video visitation. Avoid transparent items, overly tight clothing without proper undergarments, costumes, and anything that could disguise your identity.
- ✓ Check your top and bottoms on camera before the call. If your outfit reveals buttocks, breasts, back, or stomach, staff can deem it unacceptable.
- ✓ Make sure there is absolutely no nudity at any point during the visit.
- ✓ Do not take screenshots or photos of the screen. A first offense can trigger an automatic one-year suspension.
- ✓ Do not record your screen, and do not live stream or rebroadcast the visit on any platform.
- ✓ Turn off any screen-recording features and close apps that might capture or mirror your screen.
- ✓ Never try to work around a suspension by creating or using multiple accounts. That behavior can also lead to an automatic one-year suspension.
- ✓ If a violation is discovered, expect the visit to be terminated.
If cost is a concern, use the free onsite Video Visitation Center at 500 E. Adams St. It works regardless of which facility houses the inmate. Remote visits through GettingOut run $0.25 per minute. For remote visits, set up your GettingOut account early and upload your ID for verification. Once approved, the inmate initiates the video call to you.
Schedule ahead: All visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance, so do not wait until the last minute.
