How to Send Mail to Someone at Montgomery Pretrial: The New Phoenix Address Explained

Starting October 1, 2024, personal mail for inmates - anything normally delivered by USPS - goes to a centralized processing center: P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131. Use this address for letters and other personal correspondence.

Every piece of mail needs the inmate's full name and 10-digit booking number. Include your name and return address on the envelope too. Missing details - even something as simple as a forgotten booking number - can delay delivery or prevent the mail from reaching them at all.

Note: All incoming mail is inspected for contraband. Don’t send boxes - boxed mail won’t be accepted - and keep envelopes no larger than 8½" x 11".

Two types of mail skip the Phoenix center entirely: legal mail and authorized reading materials. Legal mail still goes directly to the facility - the October 2024 change doesn't apply. Same for authorized reading materials like magazine subscriptions, newspapers, and paperback books. Send those to the facility where the person is housed: Pretrial Detention Facility, 500 E. Adams St, Jacksonville, FL 32202.

  • Magazines, newspapers, and other periodicals/publications: accepted only by subscription in the inmate’s name
  • Paperback books: must be mailed directly from Amazon, Books-A-Million, or Barnes & Noble

Anything not on the approved list counts as contraband - including photographs and computer-generated materials downloaded from the internet. All incoming mail gets inspected, and unauthorized items will be confiscated and disposed of.

Warning: If you include unauthorized items, the entire package can be confiscated for disposal - so keep mail simple and within the allowed categories.

If you sent mail to the Phoenix address and something seems off - say, the inmate can't view it on their tablet as expected - reach out to TextBehind support at info@TextBehind.com.
