How to Get Approved to Visit Someone at Morgan County Correctional Complex

Before you fill out anything, here's how TDOC handles visitor lists. At Morgan County Correctional Complex, all immediate family members who apply can be approved, plus up to eight additional adult visitors. One thing that catches people off guard: everyone needs an approved visitation application on file - including children. Even if you're a parent or you've visited other TDOC facilities before, you still need approval specifically for this inmate.

Note: On the CR-2152, you must complete every section and use a physical address - P.O. Boxes aren’t allowed. Leaving blanks (or using a P.O. Box) can hold up approval.

You'll need TDOC's Visitation Application, form CR-2152. Facilities are required to provide blank copies to inmates, so your loved one should be able to get you one. Still waiting? Ask the inmate to request a form through the facility. Starting with the right paperwork saves time down the road.

Finish it right: Attach a current photograph to your CR-2152 and fill out every section - no blanks, no P.O. Box address. Incomplete paperwork is the fastest way to turn a simple application into a weeks-long delay.

Once you've completed the CR-2152, return it with your current photograph to the Deputy Superintendent/Associate Warden in charge of visitation. Policy expects this within 30 days. Follow the delivery instructions on the form itself to make sure it reaches the right office.

After the facility receives your application, expect a decision within 30 days. That clock starts when they have the paperwork in hand - not when you mail it. If 30 days have passed with no response, check whether your form was complete and your photo was current. Missing those details is the most common reason applications stall.

Exception for newly committed inmates: Immediate family may be allowed to visit before the formal application is approved. Everyone else must wait until their CR-2152 is approved and on file.

Approval isn't permanent. Visitor applications (CR-2152) must be updated every two years. If it's been a while since you last submitted paperwork, plan ahead - you don't want to lose visiting time because your old application expired.

There's also an administrative catch-up rule for long-time visitors: if you're currently on an approved list but don't have a completed application on file, you're required to submit an updated CR-2152 within six months of the policy's effective date. Translation: if staff says your paperwork isn't on file - even though you've visited before - you'll need to re-submit to stay current.

Common Mistakes

  • Using a P.O. Box for your address on the CR-2152 (a physical address is required)
  • Leaving sections blank instead of completing the entire application
  • Forgetting to attach a current photograph
  • Not getting the CR-2152 from the inmate and submitting the wrong paperwork (or nothing at all)

Warning: If you falsify information on the CR-2152, you can be blocked from resubmitting a visitor application for at least six months.

A denial for falsification means waiting at least six months before you can reapply. That's a long setback - so take the form seriously and answer honestly, even for details that seem minor. For other issues, the fix is usually straightforward: correct the problem and resubmit. Once the facility has a complete application, you should hear back within 30 days.
