What You Can't Send to Morgan County Jail (Mail Prohibited Items, Size & Scanner Rules)

Morgan County Jail uses a third-party vendor to scan inmate non-legal mail off-site. This means the mailing address for standard friends-and-family mail isn't the jail itself - it's a separate processing location. Double-check you're using the current non-legal mail address before sending anything.

Address Requirements

• ✓ Inmate’s full name
• ✓ Inmate ID number
• ✓ A return address on the envelope

Mail must be no larger than 8 ½ x 11 inches. It also needs to pass through a sheet-fed scanner, so anything bulky, stiff, or built-up can get rejected - even if the pages themselves are technically "paper."

1. Keep every page at 8 ½ x 11 inches or smaller - Oversized mail doesn’t meet the facility’s size limit.
2. Make it scanner-friendly - Keep the contents thin enough to pass through a sheet-fed scanner.
3. Mail pages flat - Avoid formats that create bulk; a thin, flat stack is the goal.
4. Don’t include prohibited items - Leave out stamps, blank envelopes, stationery, and any form of currency.
5. Do a final “scanner test” before sealing - If the envelope feels thick or uneven, re-pack it so it stays thin and flat.
