Getting Approved to Visit Mountain View: Visitor Application, Background Checks, and Timeline

You'll need to be on the resident's approved visiting list before you can visit Mountain View. First-time visitors must submit a Visitor Application ahead of time - if you show up without prior approval, you won't get in.

Getting Approved to Visit Mountain View: Visitor Application, Background Checks, and Timeline

Mountain View uses the Adult Facility Visitor Application. Print it and fill it out by hand, or complete it electronically and then print - either way, you'll mail it in. Use one form per applicant and sign every page. Send your completed application to: Mountain View Correctional Facility, Attention: Visits, 1182 Dover Road, Charleston, ME 04422.

Don't want to deal with mailing paperwork? Mountain View also accepts requests through the online Visit Schedule Request.

Once you apply, the facility won't process your application until a criminal records check is complete. The State Bureau of Identification handles this, and it can take several weeks. Don't worry if you don't hear back right away.

If your application is denied, you'll receive written notification. If you're approved, the resident gets notified and will let you know. Resist the urge to call for updates - Mountain View specifically asks applicants not to call while applications are being processed.

Bringing a child? The rules are stricter. Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Alternatively, another adult can bring them - but only with written permission from the parent/legal guardian and prior approval from the Chief Administrative Officer (or designee). If you're the adult bringing a minor, follow the Visitor Application instructions carefully. Remember: one applicant per form, and sign every page.
