Set Up Your Securus Account Now so You’re Ready When Mule Creek Switches (March 2025)
Mule Creek State Prison switches to Securus on 3/9 (telephones) and 3/10–3/13 (tablets). Set up your Securus account now, and you'll be ready to use the new tablet communication options the moment they go live.
Mule Creek is part of the CDCR rollout - telephones switch on 3/9, tablets on 3/10–3/13. Why the change? CDCR awarded a new statewide telecommunications contract to Securus Technologies, LLC on February 21, 2025, replacing the prior ViaPath contract. Once Mule Creek completes the transition, you'll need Securus (not ViaPath) for inmate tablets and related services.
Note: A Securus user account will be required to receive video calls and electronic messaging once those services are available at Mule Creek.
- Create your Securus account - Open an account online or through the Securus mobile app so you’re set up before Mule Creek’s transition.
- Get ready for video features - In the app, look for Video Connect options and register so you can use video sessions when they’re turned on for the institution.
Once you create your account, finish any setup prompts right away - don't leave them for later. The goal is simple: have a working Securus login ready now so you can jump straight into the available communication tools when Mule Creek completes the switch.
Securus Video Connect is a web-based system for scheduling and joining video sessions. You can use the free Securus app, a computer, or a tablet. Planning to use video calling? Set up your Securus account ahead of time. You'll need one to receive video calls and electronic messaging once those services go live at Mule Creek.
- ✓ Create your Securus account now (online or in the mobile app)
- ✓ In the app, tap into AdvanceConnect to set up and add funds if you plan to use prepaid video calling
- ✓ In the app, go to Video Connect and register by selecting “Allow Video Calls”
Tip: Video Connect works through the free Securus app, or you can use a computer or tablet - plan ahead for which device you'll use.
You don't need a Securus account just to receive free telephone calls. But you will need one for video calls and electronic messaging - so it's worth setting up now, even if phone calls are all you're using today.
