What to Bring (and Leave Behind) for Your First Visit to Inverness Jail

Every adult visitor needs a current, valid, government-issued photo ID at check-in. Accepted forms include a state driver's license, state ID card, military ID card, or passport. No valid ID? You'll be turned away before reaching the visiting area.

Staff check specific coverage areas - not just your overall look. Your chest must be covered from the bottom of your armpits to your navel. Groin and buttocks need to stay covered too, including when seated (clothes that ride up can cause problems). When in doubt, go more conservative. Getting turned away for a wardrobe issue is frustrating.

You'll pass through a metal detector before entering the visiting area - and you need to clear it without setting it off. Have a medical condition that makes standard screening unsafe? Let staff know ahead of time so they can arrange an alternative search.

Warning: Don’t take - or try to take - contraband into the jail. It can lead to arrest and prosecution under ORS 162.185.

What to Bring (and Leave Behind) for Your First Visit to Inverness Jail
  1. Fill out the paperwork first - Before you approach the visiting window to sign up, complete a separate “service request form” for each person who’s visiting.
  2. Sign up early - You must sign up at least 30 minutes before the visiting session you’re requesting.
  • Bring a current, valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, military ID, or passport) for every adult visitor.
  • If you’re using the Inverness lobby video kiosks, arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled kiosk visit.
  • If you’re doing a video visit (Securus), schedule it at least 24 hours in advance.
  • If you’re bringing a minor, bring documents that prove the child’s relationship to you (birth certificate, adoption papers, custody orders, or notarized permission).
