All visits at Muskegon County Jail are by appointment only, and you need to schedule at least 24 hours in advance. Pick your day, then book at least one full day ahead so you don't miss the cutoff. Bringing a minor? Anyone under 18 must be scheduled alongside an adult who is 18 or older.

On-site visits run five days per week. Federal holidays are excluded, so don't assume a holiday weekday will be available.

Visiting hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 10:55 a.m. and 1:00 to 3:55 p.m. Each on-site visit lasts 25 minutes. Arrive checked in and on time if you want the full session.

For video visitation (whether on-site or from home), you'll schedule through the facility's scheduling page. The video service is provided by GTL. If you run into technical issues, their helpdesk number is 855-208-7349.

  • Create your portal account early so you can grab a time slot as soon as you see one
  • If an inmate has exceeded free visits, use the portal’s pay-per-visit option to purchase a visit
  • Expect instant confirmation once your visit is booked

Plan to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time so you can get through check-in. Show up late, and you won't be admitted. The visit is forfeited.

  • Bring a valid government-issued photo ID (visitors under 18 can use a current school-year photo ID)
  • Be ready for a search, all visitors are subject to search by staff

If you arrive after your scheduled visitation time, staff will turn you away and that visit is gone. Your best move is to reschedule as soon as possible through the scheduling portal. Just remember the 24-hour advance booking requirement still applies.

  1. Try to rebook in the online portal - visits are confirmed instantly, so you will know right away if you grabbed a new slot.
  2. Use pay-per-visit if needed - the portal supports purchasing a visit when the inmate has exceeded free visits.
  3. Switch to video if that saves the day - schedule through the facility’s video scheduling page, and call GTL helpdesk at 855-208-7349 if you hit a technical issue.
